Jewelry Care
Follow these tips to ensure the longevity of your jewelry...
·Put jewelry on after using cosmetics, hair spray or perfumes to avoid contact with substances and chemicals which can damage certain metals and stones. It is best to remove Gold plated and Brass rings before washing your hands. Always remove your rings and fine jewelry before using any product that contains bleach. Bleach can cause gold and other metal alloys to breakdown leaving the metal irreparably damaged. This includes swimming pools and bathing in hot tubs as chlorine products are added to prevent bacteria growth.
Storage
·Soft stones like lapis, malachite, amber, turquoise, pearls and opals can easily be scratched by pin stems and the edges of other jewelry. Protect these pieces by wrapping them in jeweler's tissue and storing separately. Fresh Water pearls are best stored in a special jewelry pouch because of their softness. Never store Pearls in plastic bags! Storing beaded necklaces flat is highly recommended to reduce stretching. Do not store jewelry in your bathroom as the humidity and use of hair products may harm the finish.
Pearls
·Protect from scratches; perfumes and household chemicals which can wear away the nacre or cause color change. Pearls can be damaged by liquid tarnish removers and certain abrasives. A soft cloth is all that's needed to polish your pearl jewelry. If cleaning other parts of the jewelry piece is needed (such as settings or ring bands), use care to only apply treatment to these surfaces, avoiding the pearl itself. Dyed Pearls should be kept free from water or perspiration.
Brass
·Sleeping, Swimming and Exercising will often oxidize the metals in your jewelry very quickly. To restore shine, wipe with a polishing cloth.
· Many of our pieces have been purposefully oxidized to create an aged finish. Do not clean these pieces with jewelry polish. If you wish to slow the oxidation process, store these pieces in plastic bags and make sure not to wear them during activities where you might perspire. Some of our pieces are made using raw brass which has a matte finish (not shiny). To continue with the desired look of this metal, it has not been coated or polished; therefore these pieces will oxidize over time creating a beautiful patina.
Gold and Silver
·The best way to clean your Gold and Silver jewelry is with a mild detergent and water solution or a soft, polishing cloth. When caring for your jewelry, never use anything but 100% cotton as a polishing cloth since paper, polyester, and coarse fabrics often contain wood fibers or synthetics. These materials may impart fine scratches in the metal, especially on sterling silver. Jewelry polish may be used on Gold Filled jewelry, but special care must be made to prevent contact with pearls and other soft stones.
